Two Loon Chicks Hatched on Otter Lake – Please Boat Carefully!

July 15, 2019 by Kerry Mueller

Two young Loon chicks were spotted with their parents today on Otter Lake near near Fair Is. This general area of the lake is their home so when boating, please give them lots of space so they can go about their day.

Also please keep your wake low. These young chicks are riding periodically on their parents’ backs which chicks will do when they are tired out. Large wakes can drown young chicks at this age so please keep your wakes low near them.

These are the only two Loon chicks successfully hatched on Otter Lake thus far in 2019 and it is great news during a season when lake levels have been so crazy. On Little Otter Lake two other chicks were hatched on June 16th.

Please pass this happy news on. Thanks for looking out for our Loons!
