Newsletter – Spring 2022

April 30, 2022 by Kerry Mueller

It is finally spring In Seguin!!  Something I recently learned is that the Seguin River and Seguin Township get their names from the Ojibwe word for spring, Ziigwan. (Thank you Marty Chepesiuk!)

History is on our minds now since  OLRA is celebrating the association’s 60th anniversary! 60 years is not even close to how long many families can trace back their history on the Otter Lakes, but it is quite a milestone for a lake association to achieve.

Newsletter – Fall 2021

December 5, 2021 by Kerry Mueller

Change has been the operative word over the last 20 months and will continue to be.  Some changes for OLRA have been positive and will stick.  Zooming is something we’ve become pretty good at.  The OLRA AGMs successfully went ahead via Zoom in 2020 and 2021.  Attendance was good and people participated from a great distance who otherwise could not have.  At the AGM in 2022, we plan to be Zooming and hopefully meeting in person too. Stay tuned…

In 2020 the OLRA photo contest went on-line for the first time which enabled many more to participle. This year 82 terrific photos were entered!

Newsletter – Spring 2021

April 11, 2021 by Kerry Mueller

As I write this on March 29th, 2021, spring is visible and audible everywhere at the lake. The Red Wing Blackbirds are calling. Buds are swelling. Snow is vanishing. The lake ice is darkening and fracturing with the recent rains and the lake level rose about 20 cm (almost 8”) in a week.
Just two days ago, this fox made a dash across the ice from the Short Arm past Fair Island. Today it would have a tougher time getting ashore without a swim as about 20 feet of open water ripples beside our dock.

Newsletter – Fall 2020

November 9, 2020 by Kerry Mueller

When I was writing this column in the spring, we were all just getting our heads around COVID-19 and the changes it could bring to our lives. Despite those changes, it was a great summer to be at the lake. AJ and I had less family and friends physically getting together with us but our digital skills have really ramped up. There have been positives from that. Zooming with my sisters and their families out west has kept us in better touch than in decades. But there is nothing that can replace real hugs. I think we all look forward to more worry free hugs, especially with our seniors and the tiny tots in our lives.
