Another excited bunch of kids and their families turned out for the 3rd OLRA Family BBQ and Fair. The weather cleared just in time for about 100 attendees to play games, socialize, enjoy a BBQ lunch and win the many coveted prizes!
61 lbs of non-perishable food was collected for the Harvest Share food bank as well as $149.53. Thank you to all who donated.
Kids and adults alike were fascinated by the very chill snapping turtle, Miki, that Becky and Julia brought along to educate us all about these fascinating creatures. They also had great info about the Georgian Bay Biosphere’s many projects, including grants available for heat pumps, their turtle hatchery, species at risk and much more.
An event like this is only possible with great volunteers! Billie Anne Robinson chatted people up about protecting our loons with OLRA’s Get The Lead Out initiative. Prize winners were drawn with the two framed loon photos won by Mitch Brewin. The loon cheese board went to Jessica Jakymyc. The two sets of slate coasters were won by Sara Woolsy and Rachele Amy. Congrats to all the winners for getting the lead out of their tackle boxes!! And thank you to our prize donors, Allan Campbell, Crystal at We Got Wood and the Otter Lake Marina.
