Blue-green Algae toxin in bay of Otter Lake

Please be advised that Sept 15th 2016 the MOECC sampled a growth reported to them in a quiet bay on Otter Lake. Oct. 7th 2016 the attached information was received by Seguin Township and residents in that area were immediately notified to take precautions.

One Loon Chick on Little Otter Doing Well

One of the two Loon chicks hatched on Little Otter is doing very well and is near adult size now - see photo. Sadly, the other has not survived after seemingly being pecked in the eye by a rival adult Loon. Aspen Wildlife Sanctuary expertly and promptly responded to rescue the Loon. However, the eye injury was severe enough that despite best efforts the Loon could not be saved. Thank you to all who donated to Aspen Wildlife Sanctuary at the OLRA BBQ and at the marina! They do great work!

Eat Around the Sound Event by GBBR

Sweet Honey Festival on Sept. 17th/2016 10am-1pm at Canador College. Admission is $20 paid at the door. Visit the apiary and enjoy a honey tasting session. Cyanobacterial bloom in Muskoka - Three Mile Lake

The Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit warned residents on Three Mile Lake of another cyanobacterial (blue green algae) bloom. People are advised to not swim or bath in the lake water nor to drink, cook or wash with it. Boiling the water does not make it non-toxic either. Three Mile Lake is about an hour drive south east of Otter Lake. To help prevent such blooms on our lake see this MOECC link https://www.ontario.ca/page/blue-green-algae

2016 OLRA BBQ coming up on Aug 13th

We will again be celebrating summer together with our annual OLRA Rib-fest BBQ at the Grand Tappattoo Resort on Sat. Aug. 13th. 5-8 pm. The band Midnight Special will be playing. Tickets can be purchased from Art Coles for $15 (705-378-0434 or drop by 12 Black Bear Path). See you there to toast another summer on beautiful Otter Lake!
