Water Levels Rising with Rainy June and July 1st

The water levels on Otter Lake have risen with all the rain in June and now today, July 1st. However, lake levels are still slightly (approx. 1.7cm) below the desired upper target level set by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Looking forward to more sunshine next week!

2 Loon Chicks Hatched on Little Otter

As of this morning 2 Loon chicks have now hatched on little Otter Lake as reported and photographed by Marilyn Campbell. Yay! Please give this family lots of space and boat carefully since Loon chicks cannot dive or swim well for weeks. As all good parents do, the adults will stick close by their young teaching them to swim, dive and feed so they grow strong enough to migrate to the oceans in the fall.

Blue-Green Algae - What you need to know

The phosphate level in our lake is being significantly increased by our human activities. Phosphates help algae to grow and blue-green algae is particularly worrisome since it can produce a toxin that makes lake water unsafe for drinking, swimming, bathing, watering the gardens and for our pets. Parry Sound Dragon Boat Festival - June 23rd - 24th, 2017

Starting with a Canada 150 parade June 23rd at 6:30 pm to the exciting races, beach party and BBQ on the 24th, this fun Rotary Club event if worth checking out at Waubano Beach in Parry Sound. Pledges go to local charities. http://www.dragonboatfestival.org/
